Admission of students in Polytechnics on the basis of marks obtained in Madhyamik or its 
equivalent examinations in the academic session 201 0-2011 (except Darjeeling Polytechnic, 
Kurseong and Siliguri Government Polytechnic) 
    
Applications  are  invited  in  prescribed  form  from  th e  candidates  who  have  passed  Madhyamik  or  its 
equivalent  examinations  obtaining  a  minimum  aggrega te  of  60%  marks  in  Mathematics  and  Physical 
Science  taken  together  (for ‘General’  category  cand idates  only)  for direct  admission  to 40%  seats  of  the 
listed  Polytechnics  of  the  State.  The  norms  of  sele ction  of  candidates  for  such  admission  will  be  on  t he 
basis of merit ranking based on the results of the  qualifying examination. The facility of direct admi ssion 
will  be  available  to  the  students  who  have  passed  t he  Madhyamik  or  its  equivalent  examination  from 
schools  of  the  district  in  which  the  candidate  is  a   resident  and  seeking  admission  to  the  polytechnics  
under the same district with the following exceptio ns: 
  
a)   Candidates  belonging  to  Kolkata,  24  Parganas  (North   &  South),  Howrah  and  Hooghly  districts 
will  be  eligible  for  admission  to  any  polytechnic  f alling  within  the  aforesaid  districts.  For  filling 
up of choice of district in the application form, t hese districts will be known as ‘Kolkata’ district. 
 
b)   Candidates  of  both  the  districts  of  Uttar  &  Dakshin   Dinajpur  will  be  eligible  for  admission  to 
Raiganj  Polytechnic,  Uttar  Dinajpur.  For  filling  up   of  choice  of  district  in  the  application  form, 
these districts will be known as ‘ Dinajpur’ district. 
  
Candidates  seeking  admission  to  a  course,  which  is  not  available  in  the  polytechnic(s)  of  the  concerned 
district  may  also  apply  for  that  course  only  in  oth er  polytechnic  by  filling  up  the  appropriate  portion  of 
the application form.    
In  case,  a  female  candidate  has  changed  her  place  o f  residence  due  to  marriage,  she  will  be  allowed  to 
apply to a polytechnic of the changed district. Sim ilarly,  if a  candidate has studied  in a boarding  school, 
he/she will be allowed to take admission in the dis trict of his/her permanent residence. Change of dis trict 
will  also  be  allowed  when  father/guardian  is  transf erred  to  the  concerned  district. Authentic  document 
will have to be produced at the time of counselling  in all the above cases. 
  
Reservations  of  seats  are  available  for  SC/ST/Physi cally  Challenged/ITI  passed  candidates  as  per 
Government  rules.  No  seats  are  reserved  for  ‘OBC’  c ategory  candidates.  SC/ST  candidates  will  be 
required  to  obtain  caste  certificate  from  competent   authorities  in  West  Bengal  before  submission  of 
application.  
Seats will be filled up on the basis of district qu ota as follows: 
 
i)  For  ITI  students  –  10%  of  seats  will  be  reserved   for  the  holders  of  National  Trade  Certificates 
(NCVT)  in  various  Engineering  Trades.  They  must  hav e  obtained  minimum  60%  marks  in 
Mathematics  and  Physical  Science  taken  together  in  Madhyamik  or  equivalent  examination  (for 
‘General’  category  candidates  only).  They  will
